Loss and Forgetfulness

Loss and Forgetfulness
Gary Hume/ English Artist (1962)

I will never forget
The air, the earth, and the yellow skies
My memory will visit these tainted streets
Invisible, as I walk.

I will always remember
The beautiful prostitutes
Who smells like freshly picked flowers
I will never forget.

I will always remember
These beautiful men
With their crippled minds
And blistered hands

I will never forget
How hideousness mingles with beauty
How the chipped tooth of a lover
Makes for a better kiss

How a land so barren
Can bear green children

How dry earth quenches its thirst
With the blood of dead women

How the broken watch
Of a dead lover
Can never tell the time
No matter how hard you kiss it

I will always remember.

Flirting with the death
Of his voice
With the absence
Of his glow

With the blue of his thoughts
With the blood of his veins

Flirting with the gaze
Of his eyes
With the rifle slung
Over his shoulder

Losing moments
We so clearly adored

The petals and the high grass comes
The sunshine and the sunset
A skeleton of his voice remains
A fragment of his poetry is lost.
